In recent years, the film industry has been on the brink of its biggest change in history; the evolution from film to digital

Digital Cinema encompasses all phases of the movie making process, from production and post-production to distribution and then projection. Digital prints have become more and more widespread each year and in 2007 hit some major milestones with thousands of projectors being installed and almost every movie available digitally.

The major advantage to the movie-goer is the increased quality and clarity of the picture, it will always look at its best as they are unaffected by the scratches, fading, and jittering that film is almost inevitably subjected to. In other words, the quality of the film will be outstanding whether you see it on opening night or months later.

Other advantages are the enhanced capability to create 3D films and other types of events such as concerts. In 2007 there were various titles that came to theatres in Digital 3D formats, well establishing their place in the world of film. There promises to be more titles coming up this year which will surely launch a new era of the Adventure Within.

Although most of our current screens continue to run the traditional 35mm film, much like the industry Empire Theatres will change with the times. At present Empire Theatres has 19 screens equipped with digital projection and 18 with Digital 3D capabilities as well.
