Empire Theatres Announces Acquisition of Two Cinema Complexes in Manitoba

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HALIFAX, NS - October 02, 2008. Empire Theatres Limited, Canada’s second largest film and entertainment company, announced today that it will acquire full ownership of the Capitol Theatre in Brandon, Manitoba and the Southland Theatre in Winkler, Manitoba effective October 31, 2008.

Both theatres, currently co-owned and managed through a joint venture with Landmark Cinemas of Canada, will be 100% owned and operated by Empire Theatres as of the effective date.

“It’s an exciting day at Empire Theatres as we announce the addition of these very successful operations to Empire Theatres,” says Dean Leland, Vice President of Media and Studio Relations for Empire Theatres.  “We are proud to welcome the entire management and staff of both theatres to our company.  Empire Theatres has a proven track record of being a valued employer and valued community asset in the communities where we operate,” says Leland.

As part of the company’s vision to provide the #1 entertainment experience in the neighborhoods they serve, Empire Theatres will evaluate the opportunity to offer additional Empire Theatres’ programs and services in each market.  Empiretheatres.com will now become the main source of information for movies and showtimes and will feature the added benefit of on-line ticketing.

“The addition of these two locations helps to strengthen our presence in Manitoba and is an excellent complement to our Grant Park operation in Winnipeg” says Leland.
